SAWIA seeks reduced casual minimum engagement

Friday, Nov 20, 2015

In order to increase flexibility and reduce labour costs during peak periods in the wine industry, the South Australian Wine Industry Association (SAWIA) is seeking a number of changes to the Wine Industry Award 2010 (the Award).

On 12 October 2015 SAWIA lodged our detailed submission with the Fair Work Commission on our claim to reduce the casual minimum engagement from 4 hours to 2 hours per engagement.

To demonstrate the need for a reduction of the casual minimum engagement and the appropriateness of a 2 hour minimum engagement SAWIA was able to obtain written witness statements from wine industry employers from South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria.
