Rob Glastonbury Robert Glastonbury is responsible for receipt of grapes, wine production, packaging, logistics, warehousing, distribution, brewing and quality systems as Operations Manager at Debortolis in Griffith NSW. A Roseworthy graduate with over 20 years’ experience in wine and beer production having worked with Carlton United, Rosemount Estates, Wolf Blass and Peter Lehmann’s. Arriving at DeBortoli's in late 2004, I soon became aware of a petition that was being prepared by local residents against the odour produced by our winery. Life, as I knew it, rapidly deteriorated from that moment, however while in the grips of the recovery process we learnt to take a deep breath and then try and convert all costs to “returns” with some amazing outcomes. We have overhauled our systems, we have broadened the scope of our management, we have introduced Risk Management processes, we have focused on accreditation as appropriate and we have changed the culture of the business and returns generated by our site doubled every year, until the GFC. We had done it all before, so we went back to what we learnt, Environmental Sustainability IS Good Business, convert costs to “returns”!
