South Australian Winegrape Crush Survey 2017

The 2017 South Australian Winegrape Crush Survey has been released which shows the crush for vintage 2017 in South Australia of 863,789 tonnes an increase of 6% above the 2016 vintage. The figures for the Australian crush for the 2017 vintage have also been announced showing a crush of 1.93 million tonnes (an increase of 5% from the 2016 vintage).

The total estimated value of the South Australian crush was $658 million in 2017 compared to $581 million in 2016.

The average purchase value per tonne across South Australia increased by 8% from $631 in 2016 to $680 per tonne in 2017.

The South Australian red crush was 549,233 tonnes which was 11% higher than the 2016 crush (496,566 tonnes)  while the South Australian white crush production decreased 2% to 314,556 tonnes.

Vineyard area shows 75,624 hectares planted to vines in South Australia, a slight decrease of 234 hectares since 2016.

The number of wine grape growers in 2017 was 3,360, a slight decrease from 3,394 registered in 2016.
