Deadline extended: Environmental Excellence Awards

Monday, Jul 29, 2019

The deadline for submissions to enter the awards that celebrate leadership in environmental
management in the South Australian wine industry has been extended.

Following industry requests due to a very busy July with events, the deadline for submission of entries has been extended by two weeks to 14 August 2019 at 5pm.

The Environmental Excellence Awards, delivered by the South Australian Wine Industry Association (SAWIA) on behalf of the industry, recognise wineries who adopt substantive and quantifiable improvements in key areas of environmental management.

“The South Australian wine industry has demonstrated excellence in environmental stewardship for many years, leading to a strong clean and green reputation,” said SAWIA Chief Executive Brian Smedley.

“But we can always do better as an industry. The SAWIA Environmental Excellence Awards Program aims to highlight members who go above and beyond the basics of environmental management systems, by demonstrating leadership in areas of energy and carbon, land and biodiversity, water and waste.

“The program also helps to identify the current environmental issues facing the Australian wine industry and general community, and shares practical solutions to those issues.”

The theme for 2019 is ‘Excellence’ and companies are segmented into three award categories:

1. Small-medium winery
2. Large winery
3. Viticulture

Entry is open to SAWIA members and there is no cost to enter. Winners will be announced at SAWIA’s Annual Members’ Lunch in September.

A nomination form is available from SAWIA’s website: excellence-awards-program/. Or wineries can phone in their applications.

Several previous winners have used this method. Call Mark Gishen on (08) 8222 9278.
